Come learn tango fusion with the esteemed Robin Thomas and Yale Swing Blues Fusion! 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm for the full workshop at GPSCY 2nd floor at 204 York Street, and DJed fusion dance 8:00 pm – 1:00 am at Harkness Ballroom at 367 Cedar St. Robin Thomas is a tango teacher from NYC who travels around the world teaching. He will be visiting Yale to host a lesson series that focuses on teaching both lead and follow to all participants.
There will be four classes, with a 10 min break in between sessions. Come to all or as many as you can make!
Lesson 1: Cross and Parallel System (1:00-2:00 PM). The system for waking with “the wrong foot” that makes Argentine Tango unique within social dancing.
Lesson 2: Tango turns (2:10-3:10 PM). Tango is based on the structure of the turn. Exploring the turn as a tool for improvisation.
Lesson 3: Tango embellishments (3:20-4:20 PM). Contra body movement, extensions, boleos, tango feet and leg styling.
Lesson 4: Close embrace (4:30-5:30 PM). How to walk and turn in the Argentine Tango close embrace – not so dissimilar from blues, but with some important differences.
All four classes = $50 general admission, $40 students
Each individual class = $15 general, $12 student.
Social dance = $10 general admission, $7 students. Short intro fusion lesson 8-8:30 PM for anyone new to fusion!
