Offered once or twice a semester. Our calendar on the home page as well as our Facebook page will keep you up to date on the events we’re hosting!
Weekly Lesson Series
Want to learn the basics of swing or blues dance? Looking to smooth out that swing-out, or pick up some cool new blues moves? Choose the class that best fits your interest and experience level! We offer weekly lesson series which meet once a week for four weeks. YSBF instructors teach Introduction to Blues Dance and Introduction to Swing Dance (no previous experience required) as well as Intermediate Swing and Intermediate Blues. Watch for a new series at the beginning of each semester. We offer the intro series approximately twice a semester; intermediate classes may run less frequently. Our calendar on the home page as well as our Facebook page will keep you up to date on the events we’re hosting!
Practicum Mini Beginner Lessons
The place to come for your weekly swing, blues, & fusion fix! Our Sunday night dance practicum brings new dancers, longtime dancers, locals, and visitors together for an evening of social dancing with an informal, friendly atmosphere. Practice your dance moves to the music of local and guest deejays. We have started hosting minilessons for practicum to teach a basic foundation for swing dancing and blues dancing. These are held near the beginning of the swing dancing section (so starting at ~7:45 pm) and at the beginning of the blues dancing section (starting at ~9 pm). So if you don’t know how to dance, don’t fret! Learn those basics and then ask members of the community to help you out as you dance the rest of practicum!
Practicum runs 7:30-10:30 pm. We dance swing from 7:30-9 pm, and then blues from 9-10:30 pm. DJs will sometimes also mix in some fusion from 9:45-10:30 pm. It is usually in the Slifka Center at 80 Wall St. Sometimes (particularly during school breaks) we have to change location; if this is the case, the location will be reflected in the calendar event on the home page, as well as on our Facebook page.
Admission: now and always, FREE!
Practicum also welcomes new deejays looking for experience and constructive feedback. Contact email@example.com
